Home Theater Seating
In the process of building our home theater we consider two basic kinds of seating. Either
couches or theater style seats. Both have pros and cons.
Information current as of
You have to consider the comfort level of you and your guests as well as the overall design of the room. If your theater has sloping floors
like standard movie theaters then regular theater seating may be more beneficial. If your purpose is to accommodate the largest number of people
possible (best for screening room situations) then you definitely want to go with theater style seating. However, if the room's purpose is to
double as a family room as well then couches or other types of more versitle seating is preferred.
As you can see in our home theater pictures we went with the couches as well as 2 leather
recliners. We looked at some theater style seats but decided it wasn't comfortable seating in real theaters, why would be put them in our house?
We considered the large theater recliners, but they ended up being outside our budget (but very cool). We also decided that our home theater
would double as a family room of sorts and also a place to host parties and people just needed more comfortable places to sit. Personally I enjoy
being to lay flat while watching a movie so other than putting a full size bed in there, I needed a couch.
A seating style that has become very popular are the big theater seat recliners with cup holders between each seat. They are
usually pictured in leather but there are many cloth covered styles as well. They can be custom covered in your color fabric. You can check
out the options from this site: http://www.elitehts.com These seats will automatically upgrade
your home theater to the next level of class, but you pay a hefty price for it. They can be custom arranged in varying numbers to best fit
the dimension and layout of your room.
Whatever you choose will make a strong statement about your room. It can be inviting or cold. The original style theater seats
with almost no cushion may be neat as a decor piece, perhaps sitting outside the theater entrance, but I wouldn't recommend it as your main
form of home theater seating. They just aren't practical for extended viewing times. I don't know why major movie theaters choose them other
than bulk discounts and the ability to put more butts in the seat therefore selling more tickets.
